KARACHI: A violent mob attacked an anti-polio team in Karachi’s Sachal Goth, refusing to allow children to be administered polio drops.
According to police officials, a group of 20 to 25 people confronted the polio vaccination team, leading to a heated altercation and physical assault. Upon receiving reports of the incident, a large contingent of police arrived at the scene.
The police reported that the enraged mob pelted stones, causing damage to police vehicles. In response, law enforcement arrested 12 individuals involved in the attack, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
A case has been registered against the arrested individuals under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Secretary has contacted the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, instructing strict action against those responsible. He emphasized that all individuals involved in the attack must be brought to justice and asserted that any mistreatment of polio workers would not be tolerated.
Additionally, the chief secretary has ordered heightened security measures for polio teams across the province.
In a related incident, 90 people in Quetta refused to allow polio vaccination, leading to the arrest of five individuals.
